I have been researching my and my wife’s families for several years now and have often come across people not directly connected with our families that have been of great interest.
Having come across many people who would like to investigate their own family history but either don’t have the time or feel they don’t have the necessary skills, I have decided to offer my services to anybody who might find them useful. There are a number of ways that I can help:-
- I can come to your home and give you some basic guidance on how to start, e.g. by showing you which internet sites can provide you with useful information, and how to obtain it.
- If you are stuck I can try to help you break down that brickwall.
- I can provide a complete research service for you. There are a number of different ways that I could do this, but it would be sensible to establish a budget to start with so that both you and I know where we stand.
- Or would you like to find out more about one particular person or branch in your family.
I aim to provide a flexible service and to clearly agree what you would like and what the costs are likely to be before we start. Please note, it is not possible to say that it will cost a specific amount to complete your family history. It is impossible to tell before you start where the research will lead. It is, however, possible to agree a budget or a limit to the amount to be spent.
I am a member of the Society of Genealogists and several county and local family & local history societies. I am on The National Archives Register of Independent Researchers, and I am also a member of The Friends of the National Archives.
I regularly visit County Record Offices at Winchester(Hampshire), Chelmsford(Essex), Stafford, Woking (Surrey), The National Archives (Kew), The Society of Genealogists, Royal Mail Archives (London). I am happy to visit other archives as needed or to conduct research on the internet as required.
I also regularly attend lectures, talks and workshops at The Society of Genealogists and The National Archives.
I have assisted clients in the UK, Australia and New Zealand to make progress with their family history research.
My basic charges are £12 per hour plus expenses (e.g. travel, certificates, printing, downloading (where applicable)). Expenses are charged at cost.
